Sundays are one of my favourite day of the week. It’s the day that I devote to family, faith and reflection. I get to attend my regular church services where they have inspiring messages and while I don’t get to hang around and connect with friends like I used to before we become parents, it’s still going to see familiar faces and have quick walking conversations. Now that I’ve invited you into my word, I figured it’s about time I started sharing the big aha moments from my Sunday reflections.
Today, the pastor expounded on an area that I have learnt the hard way in the last couple of years: the power of long term thinking. He gave stories about the progress the church made since they took over the church 20 years ago. This means means they have been diligently putting in the time and hard work for a long time. One of the things I find inspiring about my pastor is his ability to articulate the vision and then keep re-affirming the vision at every opportunity so we don’t forget where we are going.
See, while having a vision is so importing, what’s greater is articulating the it clearly and then enlisting the right kind of people that can help you bring it into fruition. The next thing thing is to cultivate long term thinking because great things take time. We live in a world of instant gratification and thinking longterm will require a significant rewiring of the way think and act on a day to day basis.
What’s your vision? What are you prepared to sacrifice to see it come to fruition? Are you prepared to play the long game and be patient during the messy middle when it seems like you are not making any headways?
